“The Dakar School” was created in 1960 by President Senghor. It was directed by MR. Iba Ndiaye a famous painter and then by Pierre Lods founder of the school of Poto-Poto in Zaire. Many recognized artists come from this school. It advocates a certain freedom to create and has enabled the establishment of an environment favorable to art and culture in Senegal.
